Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent Active Partnership, Together Active, has today revealed new research showing a shocking 97% of local sports and physical activity clubs have already faced challenges because of the rising cost of living.*

Following a recent survey, Together Active has said that 41% of clubs may have to reduce the number of sessions they offer in an attempt to cut costs.

40% have also seen membership numbers drop, and a worrying 20% are unsure whether they can weather the storm.

CEO Carly Jones commented;

‘Local sports and physical activity groups are vital not just to keep people healthy, but as a focal point for local communities. They bring people together and create social networks which are essential in supporting mental health.

‘We’re calling for a greater emphasis on physical activity as we recover from the crisis, with both local and national government working in collaboration with healthcare and community sport and physical activity organisations to create more opportunities for people to be active.’
