County Sports Partnership Update – May 2016

Tuesday 24th May 2016

There’s still time to Move More In May

Move More in May [72dpi]We hope you’ve heard on the radio, seen in the press or picked up something from social media about our Move More In May campaign to encourage inactive people to try something new.  It aims to allay peoples’ natural fears about trying a new sport by focusing on activities targeting beginners and by promoting the message that these activities are fun, easy to do and will improve your sense of wellbeing.

The month of May has been jammed packed with a whole range of activities that have been specifically designed to provide a sociable and gentle introduction to different sports.  Activities are informal, free or low cost and don’t require specific equipment or clothing – it is all about enjoyment for all ages and abilities.

Follow campaign activity  #MMIM16

List of Key Activities

Get into Golf (Whole Month) – The national campaign to get more people golfing.  Run by England Golf, it is delivered locally by golf clubs and PGA professionals.  Offering taster sessions and beginner courses, all activity is run by professionals in a fun and relaxed environment.

Go Canoeing Week (28.05-05.06.16) – This week is a celebration of canoeing, kayaking and stand-up paddleboarding, it s aim is to encourage people of all ages and abilities to pick up a paddle and get out on the water.

Walking Football (ongoing) – Adults nationwide are being encouraged to dust off their boots and get playing again.  This slower version of the game is designed to give people who may no longer be able to play regular football the opportunity to play.

Back To Hockey Festivals (09.05-19.06.16) – These sessions are fun, sociable and informal and aimed at people who either haven’t played hockey for a number of years or who are looking to play for the first time. With the promise not to be anything like the school days of muddy pitches or standing around waiting for a touch of the ball, these sessions look to offer something everyone can enjoy.

Back to Netball (ongoing) – Thinking about getting back into Netball? Want to try it for the first time?  The emphasis of these sessions is on learning new skills and having fun playing Netball with friends. Whether it is about rediscovering sporting abilities you forgot you had or about getting active, these sessions cater for all abilities.

Archery GB Big Weekend (03-05.06.16)

Local archery clubs will be throwing open their doors and welcoming members of the public to try archery at fun and friendly events.
