East Staffordshire Sports Scholarship Nominations Go Live
Applications and nominations are now being invited for the 2017 East Staffordshire Sport Scholarship Awards. The annual awards will take place at the Hilton at St George’s Park on Friday 10th March 2017.
The highlight of the evening will be the awarding of the Hilton at St Georges Park Sports Person of the Year award. Former winners include Burton Albion footballer Daren Stride, England Netballer Olivia Murphy and last year’s winner, international weightlifter James Gardner.
Nominations are also sought for the following categories:
- Young Leader of the Year
- Sports Coach of the Year
- Disabled Performer of the Year
- Administrator of the Year
- Junior Team of the Year
- Senior Team of the Year
- Junior Sports Person of the Year
- Sports Unsung Hero
Elite sports performers and coaches who have performed in their chosen sport at regional level or above can also apply for Grant Aid to help them with training and competition costs to assist them in achieving full national and international honours.
Councillor Colin Whittaker, Deputy Leader for Cultural Services, said: “East Staffordshire is proud to boast a wealth of sporting talent and the annual awards provide the ideal opportunity to celebrate the various individual, team and club achievements over the last twelve months”.
The full criteria for applying for grant aid and making nominations is available on the Council’s website at http://www.eaststaffsbc.gov.uk/sports-development/sports-scholarship along with online and downloadable application and nomination forms.
Hard copies of the forms can also be picked up from the leisure centres in Burton and Uttoxeter, and the Customer Service Centres. The deadline for applications and nominations is Friday 9th January 2017.

DASH Christmas Holiday Activity Courses
East Staffordshire Borough Council is rolling out its popular half term activities for extra sessions this December. This time, the Sports Development team will be hosting its popular Sport in the Hood programme between Monday 19th and Thursday 22nd December, whilst Shobnall Leisure Complex will be keeping children busy from Wednesday 28th to Friday 30th December with various sporting activities.
DASH (discover activities in the school holidays) was launched in 2013 and continues to be a popular programme of events, taking place when children are off school, but this is the first time sessions will be held over Christmas.
Activities presented as part of Sport in the Hood include sports, crafts and baking so there’ll be something for everyone. Busy Bees, a session for ages 4-10 will also be taking place in the Market Hall. Shobnall’s activities include Dodgeball, Football, Athletics, Hockey and more.
