Team member Jackie’s achievements this last year

Thursday 2nd September 2021

As Together Active turns 1, our Active Places Manager Jackie Brennan takes a look back at some of the projects she’s proud to have worked on.

Cannock Chase Wayfinder Project

This project has had some challenges at times but it is one which is very much needed. The aim of this project is to connect local communities actively and emotionally from the Hednesford North Ward to Cannock Chase via the existing Heritage Trail.

This will be done using innovative and community co-designed wayfaring tools, physical infrastructure improvements and engaging digital content.

Improvements to the Toc H trail and additional rest steps would provide a much-needed trail for people with disabilities and long-term health conditions to access the health benefits of Cannock Chase too.

The forthcoming 2022 Commonwealth Games features the Mountain Biking competition on the Chase, this will also provide a great platform for physical activity. This project offers a unique opportunity to leave a meaningful legacy from the Games to local people.

Better Health Staffordshire (Obesity Whole Systems Approach)

We are proud to be a partner in the process of this project. Better Health Staffordshire is the branding for a Whole Systems Approach to support healthy weight and tackle the causes of obesity.

The purpose of a ‘Whole Systems Approach’ is to create a system network where partners and communities work collectively, over the long-term to develop, implement and evaluate a shared vision and actions which tackle the causes of obesity and promote a healthy weight and an active lifestyle.

One of the best successes we’ve had with this project is the funding we secured for an Active My Way Open Data post. An external-facing newsletter is also currently being developed.
