Winter Walks: Leek

To the north of the county of Staffordshire and on the border of the Peak District, Leek has some of the most dramatic scenery for enthusiastic walkers. Each season will bring its own majesty to the views, but winter walks have a particularly magical quality in this ancient landscape.

The Roaches Extended Circular Walk

 

One of Staffordshire’s most photographed landscapes, the Roaches is an ancient and magnificent rocky ridge above Leek. The fabulous panorama will have you seeing as far as Cheshire on a clear day. This trail is primarily used for hiking and walking.

Rudyard Lake Circular Walk

 

Rudyard Lake is a reservoir set in the beautiful Staffordshire Moorlands surrounded by dramatic scenery. Built in 1797, the lake still supplies the canal system for which it was designed and is a working reservoir. It also boasts a miniature steam railway, water sports opportunities, fishing and a trip boat in the summer.

Caldon Canal Circular Walk

Caldon Canal was built to carry limestone for the iron industry and flints for the pottery industry in Staffordshire. If offers a fascinating mix of industrial heritage and stunning scenery along its route, making it a favourite for walkers and boaters alike.
