Join our team as an Active Environments Lead
Location: Hybrid (between our office, at home and across Staffordshire)
Hours: Part-Time – 26 hours per week
Salary: £33,000 FTE (£26,400 actual salary)
Do you believe the environments around us shape how we move, connect and live?
The places where we live, work and spend our time have a significant influence on our health and wellbeing. That’s why we’re looking for an Active Environments Lead to help create the conditions where being physically active becomes a safe, easy and attractive choice for everyone.
This is a unique opportunity for someone who believes healthier communities are created through collaboration. If you’re passionate about influencing systems, building partnerships and working alongside communities to create lasting change, we’d love to hear from you.
We’re Together Active, a charity working across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to make it easier for people to be active in ways that fit their lives.
We focus on the systems that shape who gets included and who doesn’t. That means looking beyond individual behaviours to understand how policy, funding, culture and place influence people’s choices, freedoms and access to movement.
We don’t deliver programmes or duplicate what’s already working. Instead, we connect people, influence decision-makers and help good work take root, especially in the communities where inequality is most deeply felt.
We’re looking for an Active Environments Lead to join our growing team.
About the Role
As our Active Environments Lead, you’ll lead Together Active’s work to influence the places and spaces that make physical activity possible. Working across planning, transport, health, education, environmental organisations and local communities, you’ll help create the conditions for physical activity to become a safe, easy and attractive choice for everyone.
This role is about more than improving places. It’s about influencing the systems that shape them. You’ll build partnerships, champion active environments and work alongside communities to ensure local insight informs long-term decisions about neighbourhoods, green and blue spaces and active travel.
You’ll also empower communities to shape their local environments through meaningful engagement and co-design, helping create places where people feel safe, welcome and motivated to be active. By bringing together evidence, collaboration and lived experience, you’ll help create healthier, more sustainable communities across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
We’d absolutely love to hear from you if you bring:
- Experience building strong partnerships across organisations, sectors or communities
- An understanding of how places and spaces influence health, wellbeing and inequalities
- Confidence influencing others and bringing people together around a shared vision
- Curiosity, strategic thinking and a collaborative approach to problem-solving
- Experience using evidence, insight and learning to shape decisions and influence change
- A passion for creating places where everyone has the opportunity to be active
- A commitment to equity, inclusion and long-term systems change
Experience in planning, public health, transport, placemaking, environmental sustainability, community development, active travel or partnership working are all relevant and welcome.
No single background is necessarily “the right one”, so please don’t rule yourself out without a conversation.
