Move Your Way is a year-long initiative designed to support and inspire girls living in Stoke-on-Trent to become more confident and engaged in physical activity.

If we want more girls to be active, we have to start by listening.

Through workshops held with girls under 16 in Stoke-on-Trent, we heard clearly that traditional sport can sometimes feel repetitive, boring, or intimidating. Many young people told us they wanted more choice, more creativity, and more supportive environments.

Move Your Way was created in direct response to those conversations.

Over the course of the year, the programme delivers a series of dedicated and engaging events, including:

  • Glow-in-the-dark sports sessions
  • Circus skills workshops
  • Sports bra and period health sessions
  • Confidence-building activities
  • Wellbeing and self-esteem workshops

These activities are designed to remove pressure, celebrate individuality, and help girls discover movement in ways that feel positive and enjoyable.

Part of the ‘This Girl Can’ Movement

Move Your Way is proudly delivered as part of the brilliant national initiative This Girl Can, led by Sport England.

Launched in 2015, This Girl Can was created to inspire women and girls to get active regardless of ability, body shape, background, or skill level. The campaign tackles the gender activity gap by celebrating real women and girls being active and challenging the fear of judgement that can often act as a barrier to participation.

We are proud to bring this powerful initiative to girls across Stoke-on-Trent, supporting them to feel confident, capable, and welcomed in physical activity spaces.

Following the success of Move Your Way, our ambition is to use this programme as a blueprint for wider change, helping us to lead further support, innovation, and opportunity for girls and young women across Staffordshire.

By combining national insight with local delivery, we aim to create long-term, meaningful impact for the next generation.

Move Your Way Festival – March 2026

In March 2026, the programme will bring together schools from across the area for a day of exploration, creativity, and fun for a regional festival.

Participants will have the opportunity to try a wide range of activities, including:

  • Aerial hoop
  • Cheerleading
  • Dance
  • Badminton
  • Cricket

Alongside physical activities, the day will include a positive messaging workshop focused on building self-esteem and confidence.

Girls will also take part in a fun, interactive session using a smoothie bike, encouraging pedal-powered movement to create fresh, nutritious smoothies while learning about healthy choices.

Our Approach

Move Your Way is about more than just sport. It’s about:

  • Listening to young people
  • Valuing their experiences
  • Creating safe, welcoming spaces
  • Challenging stereotypes
  • Supporting lifelong confidence

By putting girls’ voices at the heart of the programme, we aim to help them build positive relationships with movement that last well beyond the project.
