As the Workforce Development Officer, part of my role is developing pathways and opportunities for local people with lived experience to actively take on a role in the sport and activity sector, whether through work or volunteering. It’s about building connections, filling gaps, and developing skills so everyone feels represented in the workforce, and so individuals can lead and support local initiatives.

My role also involves capacity building for local organisations, clubs, and the existing workforce, understanding skills gaps and local need, and providing support through building local connections and upskilling opportunities. To do this, I work with community organisations, sports clubs, and delivery partners, as well as across sectors including health and education.

What do Together Active’s values mean to you and your role?

Together Active’s values reflect how we work both internally and externally. They represent the difference we are trying to make, through building communities and partnerships that work better together, we aren’t afraid to try new approaches to challenge barriers to activity, and strive for inclusion, openness, trust, and valuing others’ contributions. I believe we should work in the same way we expect others to, as that is what will drive real change.

What does Together Active’s mission mean to you?

Together Active’s vision resonates with me in two ways. Firstly, physical activity is extremely important to me in my life, it supports my mental and physical health and has opened so many doors. I feel strongly that everyone should have access to it and am committed to this vision. However, this also means a lot to me in terms of our way of working. I’m motivated by Together Active’s approach to designing out inactivity and looking at tackling the inequalities existing in local communities, looking at root causes and the systems that mean inactivity exists, rather than delivering one off sport and activity opportunities which might not make lasting impact.

What does inclusion and access in physical activity mean to you?

Inclusion and access in physical activity are about removing the barriers people face and challenging the systems that create them. It involves designing environments where people feel genuinely welcome and included. It’s also about noticing who isn’t in the room, whose voices aren’t being heard, and intentionally creating space for them within physical activity.
