Lead Our Board as Chair
Location: Flexible (Board meetings held in Stafford or Stoke-on-Trent, with virtual options)
Time Commitment: 1 day/month
Term: 3 years (with the possibility of reappointment)
Salary: Voluntary (reasonable expenses paid)
Could you lead Together Active into its next chapter, strengthening governance, partnerships and impact across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent?
We’re Together Active, a charity working across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent to make it easier for people to be active in ways that fit their lives.
We focus on the systems that shape who gets included and who doesn’t. That means looking beyond individual behaviours to understand how policy, funding, culture, and place influence people’s choices, freedoms, and access to movement.
We don’t deliver programmes or duplicate what’s already working. Instead, we connect people, influence decision-makers, and help good work take root especially in the communities where inequality is most deeply felt.
We are seeking a new Chair to lead our Board at an important point of renewal. With the Board being refreshed, interim leadership in place and a new Sport England investment period expected to begin in April 2027, this is an opportunity to shape our next chapter.
You will provide strategic leadership, strengthen Board effectiveness, support the appointment of our next permanent Chief Executive and deepen relationships across local government, health, sport and the voluntary and community sector.
We are looking for an experienced, supportive and emotionally intelligent leader who will understand our organisation and local context before helping us move forward with clarity and confidence.
About the role
As Chair, you will lead the Board in providing effective governance and strategic oversight during an important period of organisational development. You will strengthen Board effectiveness and build a trusted relationship with the interim and future Chief Executive, offering support, well-judged challenge and clear accountability while respecting operational boundaries.
You will play an important role in appointing our next permanent Chief Executive and maintain oversight of strategy, organisational performance, financial sustainability, risk, safeguarding and preparations for the next Sport England investment period. You will also support the Board in continuing to apply the principles of the Charity Governance Code and A Code for Sports Governance.
Externally, you will represent Together Active and strengthen relationships across local government, health, sport and the voluntary and community sector.
As part of England’s network of Active Partnerships, you will also have access to national expertise, shared learning and a peer community of Chairs, Chief Executives, Trustees and staff.
