We’re helping leisure centres, gyms, sports clubs, community groups and activity providers across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent strengthen their safeguarding practices and make it easier for people to speak up when something doesn’t feel right.
Together Active has partnered with Speak Out Safe (SOS), a safeguarding and welfare reporting platform designed to make raising and managing concerns simple, safe and accessible.
We’ll be using SOS as our own safeguarding reporting platform, but we’ll also be making it available to organisations across Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.
Making it easier to speak up
We know that strong safeguarding is about much more than having the right policies and procedures in place.
People taking part in sport and physical activity need to know what to do if they see, hear or experience something that concerns them. They also need to feel confident that they can speak up and that their concern will be listened to and acted on appropriately.
Speak Out Safe gives people a simple way to raise a safeguarding or welfare concern, either anonymously or by name.
The platform is available 24/7, offers reporting in 29 languages and includes an audio option for people who may find it easier to talk rather than type. It also allows safeguarding leads to communicate with someone who has reported anonymously, meaning they can ask for further information or offer support without the person having to reveal their identity.
Supporting organisations locally
Through our partnership, we want to support leisure centres, gyms, sports clubs, community groups and activity providers to strengthen the way they manage safeguarding and make reporting concerns as accessible as possible for the people they work with.
Whether someone is taking part in an activity, volunteering, coaching or supporting others to be active, everyone should know where they can turn if they have a worry or concern.
For us, this is another important step towards making sure everyone has a safe and positive experience of physical activity.
