Ability Cricket Update – 30 May 2017

VI Cricket

Staffordshire Wolves Visual Impaired team have had 2 away fixtures in May in the Blind Cricket England & Wales (BCEW) Regional League, winning against Worcestershire and then coming second best against a very strong Herefordshire team. Sunday 4th June sees the Wolves entertain Lancashire Lions and then Sunday 11th, is the return fixture v Herefordshire, both at Wolverhampton CC, 1pm start.

Outdoor training sessions are taking place at Wolverhampton CC in preparation for the League fixtures – new players are always very welcome.

ECB Super9s

Staffordshire Ability Team have also had 2 fixtures in May, winning away v Derbyshire at Darley Abbey CC and then at Eccleshall CC v Shropshire, 2 exciting games played with enthusiasm by all the players, Ethan Hughes recording his first 50 at this level.

Sunday 11th June will see a strong Yorkshire team travelling to Eccleshall CC and then we entertain Derbyshire at Moddershall CC on Sunday 25th June, both 1pm start.

Outdoor training has started at Newcastle & Hartshill CC on Saturday mornings, 9.30-11.00am on a fortnightly basis, the next session will be Saturday 3rd June.

Ability Cricket Groups

Sessions have already started at Moddershall CC with the guys from Club 101 and Staffordshire Ventures on Thursday afternoons, 1.00-2.30pm every week, we look forward to another visit from the Princes Trust on Thursday 10th August.

Lichfield CC is the venue every other Thursday evening, 8th and 22nd June, and Tutbury CC every other Saturday morning, 10th and 24th June, all groups run through the Summer.

Table Cricket

Penn Hall and Wightwick Hall Special Schools both from Wolverhampton, represented Staffordshire at the Regional Table Cricket Finals held at Edgbaston on Wednesday 10th May, a fabulous day for all the children and teachers. Penn Hall were just pipped in the play-off for the Finals Day to be held at Lords on Friday 9th June but both teams acquitted themselves well and look forward to trying to go one better in 2018.

Coaching in Schools

May has seen children at Marshlands, Watermill, Blackfriars, Abbey Hill, Meadows, Cedars, Two Rivers, Penn Fields and Westcroft Special Schools benefitting from coaching in curriculum time, building up to schools competitions later in the Summer.
