Staffordshire Wolves Visual Impaired team have 2 fixtures in July in the Blind Cricket England & Wales (BCEW) Regional League, away v Lancashire Lions on Sunday 2nd and then home v Worcestershire on Sunday 30th at Wolverhampton CC.

In between these fixtures, Sunday 16th sees the players undertaking a 10 hour Cricket-thon at Wolverhampton CC led by Dave Mattox whose personal target is to be involved from 10am until 8pm. Dave will be batting and bowling in the nets helped by team-mates from 10am – 1pm, followed by playing in a VI game in the afternoon against a team  made up from members at the club playing in shades, before returning to the nets from 5-8pm!   Anyone wanting to sponsor Dave, should contact Steve for more information – all monies raised will help the team’s fundraising to cover transport costs for away matches.

Cricket Fest will also be going at the club on the 16th July with the 1st team playing in the National Knockout, BBQ from 12 and strawberries and cream available in the Members Bar to enjoy the atmosphere of Wimbledon, Men’s Final Day.

Outdoor training sessions are taking place at Wolverhampton CC in preparation for the League fixtures – new players are always very welcome.

Staffordshire Ability Team are unbeaten this season winning their 4 games in the ECB Super9s -2 more fixtures in July, Sunday 9th v Shropshire at Market Drayton CC and Sunday 30th sees the team travel to Thongsbridge CC to play against Yorkshire.

In between, we have been invited to take part in a T10 Cricket Festival at Darley Abbey CC, Derbyshire on Sunday 16th so we are hoping for a change in the weather for July!

Outdoor  training takes place at Newcastle & Hartshill CC on Saturday mornings, 9.30-11.00am on a fortnightly basis, the next session will be Saturday 15th July.

Ability Cricket Groups

Sessions have already started at Moddershall CC with the guys from Club 101 and Staffordshire Ventures on Thursday afternoons, 1.00-2.30pm every week, we look forward to another visit from the Princes Trust on Thursday 17th August.

Lichfield CC is the venue every other Thursday evening, 6th and 20th July, and Tutbury CC every other Saturday morning, 8th and 22nd July, all groups run through the Summer.

You would be very welcome to come along and have a go, meet new people and make friends in a safe, fun environment.

Walking Cricket

Going from strength to strength at Clayton Sports Centre on Mondays 6-7.30pm, a different format of the game targeting over 50s but the same sense of enjoyment and being part of a group, here’s what John thinks about Walking Cricket: “The social benefits of attending the session are endless.  I have enjoyed returning to the game of cricket and would encouraged others to come and to also give the session a go. Having gone through a difficult time recently the social network that the group provides has been invaluable and the friendships that have been formed provide support wider than just a game of cricket.”

Hopefully another Walking Cricket group will be starting at Alleynes Leisure Centre, Stone in July, watch this space for more information.

Coaching in Schools

June has seen children at Marshlands, Watermill, Blackfriars, Abbey Hill, Meadows, Cedars, Coppice, Two Rivers, Penn Fields, Hednesford Vally and Westcroft Special Schools benefitting from coaching in curriculum time, building up to schools competitions later in the Summer.
