Commonwealth aspiration for Taekwondo Coach

Monday 18th September 2017

Stoke UTA’s head coach and instructor is to head off to Montreal, Canada to compete in the Commonwealth Taekwondo games, and the Canada Open. Both are WTF Taekwondo G1 ranked events!

Master Peter Johnson 7th Dan already holds a World Bronze Medal in the forms section in Peru 2017 and a European title in Rhodes Greece in 2017. He took a Commonwealth bronze in Scotland in 2010 and aims to improve his standing this time. He holds the Canada Open gold medallist title and aims to repeat that as well. The Commonwealths and Canada Open are to be held back to back and at the same venue over six days of competition and Master Johnson flies out early on 21st September to get ready to compete.

Sporting an injury from Peru, Johnson has been undergoing weekly physio to try to alleviate the injury to his leg. He is also a member of the GB Taekwondo Poomsae (forms) team and will be the sole male representative in Canada.

Johnson said: “Due to my injuries this year, I’ve not done the preparation I wanted to but, if I can, I will try to retain my Canada Open title and get a better medal standing in the Commonwealths.”
