Boccia England- DBS Checks for Boccia Coaches

Thursday 9th November 2017

Boccia England recommends that clubs adopt some basic procedures which will safeguard all concerned. It is important that all reasonable steps are taken by clubs to ensure unsuitable people are prevented from working with a club environment.

As part of Boccia England’s ongoing commitment to safeguarding our sport it is now a requirement that any coach meets the relevant criteria is DBS checked.

It is vitally important that all clubs and their workforce undertaking boccia related activities understand that all individuals who will be working within the definition of Regulated Activity are legally required to have a DBS Barred List check and Enhanced Disclosure check prior to carrying out their role. Boccia England will also request that an individual applies for a DBS Enhanced check, if they are not in Regulated Activity, but are in a position which involves “regularly”* caring for, training, supervising or being solely in charge of children.

*Within boccia, regularly is defined as at least once a month or more.
