Sport England / Club Matters – Help us shape the future of Club Matters

We are currently working with independent researchers Brightpurpose to gather feedback that will help us shape the future development of Club Matters. And we’d love you to get involved.  Whether you are just starting up a new club or are running a more established one, if you are small or large, mainstream sport or something a little less well-known, your views are important to us.

Please spare 10 minutes to complete a short survey by clicking on the link below.  On completion of the survey you will also get a chance to leave contact details should you wish to have a chat with one of the researchers about your feedback.

British Cycling – Great Britain Cycling Team Academy applications open

Great Britain Cycling Team’s Academy is now recruiting for junior and under-23 athletes to join the endurance (track and road) and track sprint academies – and for youth and junior riders (riding in a minimum of 15s in BMX) to join the BMX and mountain bike cross-country Development Programmes.

Competition for places is unsurprisingly high with the limited number of places a reflection of the limited number of medals available at the top of the sport. Only riders demonstrating exceptional abilities and qualities will earn membership onto this illustrious programme – our aim is to prioritise those with the best chance of graduating to the British Cycling Olympic Podium Programme in the next four to six years.

Timeframes:

  • Applications are open until Monday 22 August 2018
  • Short-listed riders may be invited to attend an assessment day or camp – these will be held during August 2018
  • All applicants will be advised by Friday 15 September 2018 if they have been successful
  • The Senior Academy is currently scheduled to start on Monday 8 October 2018 – ‘move-in’ will be arranged ahead of this date on the 6 October 2018
  • The first Junior Academy camp will be the week of Monday 22 October 2018 (October half term)

Wheels for Wellbeing – Take part in survey of disabled cyclists

Wheels for Wellbeing is delighted to announce the launch of its latest survey on the needs and experiences of disabled cyclists. Last year more than 200 disabled cyclists took part in our survey, which attracted plenty of media attention, and we are hoping that this year’s will be even bigger.

As with our 2017 survey, we will be looking to gather a range of information about disabled cyclists – including demographic profile, key issues and challenges, and common experiences. This year we have also added questions on the experiences of disabled cyclists when using cycles as mobility aids and engaging with the benefits system, which we hope will shed light on little known areas of cycling and disability policy. We also have the advantage this year of being able to compare the results with our 2017 survey – the first of its kind – which will allow us to identify trends and to see how the experiences of disabled cyclists has changed over the last twelve months.

Our plan is to analyse the results of the survey in October, with the publication of a report to follow soon after. The data will be used to inform our ongoing campaigning and influencing work, and will help to raise the voice of disabled cyclists all over the UK.

Closing date 28th September.
