Staffordshire Golf Update – Jan 2016

Tuesday 5th January 2016

Staffordshire has had a very exciting start to the new year- with various initiatives taking shape for 2016, but one in particular is the IMP (Increasing membership and participation pilot project). Staffordshire again will be focussing on Golf Express- the great new for Staffordshire, is that England golf will be rolling out Golf Express on a national level- England golf’s shorter format focus. Staffordshire will be also continue to support Staffordshire clubs through; CDO, Regional Business Advisor, Training and Education and Business Relationship Officer (PGA).

GetintoCompLogoWhiteGET into golf: During the winter months CDO will be reviewing the get into golf focus clubs – then communicating with them and putting the offer together (Group coaching 4 lessons from £20), also promoting individual structured coaching and addition teaching formats. We again will be targeting current successful development centres and work with new additions to the get into golf partners. Staffordshire is also looking to work with England golf to develop the “tee to green” booklet to support professionals and golfers through there get into golf programmes.

College and University Activity: In February we will continue our structured coaching programme withStaffordshire and Keele University students- we have already 32 students signed up to the new program. We have also put together sport England bids to create funding opportunities to support students, women & girls, disability and community projects.

Disability golf: Staffordshire have been selected as a disability focus county with three of our clubs delivering disability activity: Onneley golf club, Stone Driving Range and Mark Butler Golf Academy. We are also planning a pan-disability Ryder cup event the week before the 2016 Ryder Cup (Staffordshire Vs Herefordshire/Worcester).

Coaching and Workshops: Staffordshire are working with the PGA to promote their winter program of coaching, we are also continuing to promote the England golf Business Growth Forums which started in Staffordshire through the IMP project and we popularity of these events have continued to grow and grow. We also continue to promote the demand led sessions promoted through England golf- and there education calendar.

Golf Mark: Staffordshire have a target of 16 golf mark accredited clubs and have now 17 golf mark accredited clubs- with Leek, Westwood, Trentham, Trentham Park, Great Barr and Sandwell Park Golf Club all completing the accreditation over the last two months and are under review for accreditation by England golf.

Golf ExpressGolf Express: Due to the success of Golf Express in the summer months, we will be continuing the shorter format offer during the Winter season- we have 19 clubs signed up to the initiative where we will be offering 9 holes from £6.00 to encouraging golfers to play during the winter months. To date (4638: May- November 2015) = £57,000, October: 364 and November: 467 and 7 into golf membership.

Annual Conference: Back by popular demand, the Staffordshire Golf Conference saw 160 people attend last year and we want to make the event an even great success this year, with more partners and more opportunities to grow golf partipcation and membership in Staffordshire.
