Staffordshire Ironkids under starter’s orders

Monday 18th January 2016

Youngsters across Staffordshire are under starter’s orders to line up for the IRONKIDS event when it returns to the county this summer.

Last year almost 500 children, aged between 3 and 14, took part in the races at Shugborough and organisers are anticipating it will prove even more popular as booking for entries opened online on 15 January.

The event takes place on Saturday June 11, ahead of the second IRONMAN 70.3 Staffordshire, and is a key focus and fun, family element of the IRONMAN event.

Mark Winnington, Staffordshire County Council’s Cabinet Member for Economy, Environment and Transport, said: “IRONKIDS is a fantastic way to not only showcase Staffordshire, but to get children of all ages and abilities involved in sport and encourage families to keep fit and healthy together for years to come.”

Kevin Stewart, Managing Director IRONMAN UK & Ireland, said: “IRONKIDS Staffordshire’s first year saw nearly 500 kids take part in a run a Shugborough, finishing under the iconic IRONMAN finish arch.  We expect to reach the capacity of 1,000 entries in 2016 and encourage parents to get their kids entered early.

“There is also a reduced parking fee of £5 at Shugborough to encourage the family to come along and enjoy the magnificent surroundings of the Shugborough Estate.”
