Calling all female coaches
Applications are now open for a new Development Programme for female coaches and activity leaders.
The programme is open to aspiring coaches, coaches and activity leaders who want to receive support that is bespoke to their needs.
Sport England’s insight shows that many coaches struggle to engage in ongoing learning. There is also evidence to suggest that coaches obtain qualifications to meet minimum deployment standards and then stop learning and improving.
There are a number of perceived barriers that prevent people from engaging in ongoing learning which include:
- A LACK OF MENTORING, PEER-OBSERVATION, AND EXPERIENTIAL LEARNING
- A LACK OF CONSISTENT, CONTINUED PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT ALONGSIDE THE ONE-OFF TRAINING COURSES
- A LACK OF SUPPORT FOR COACHES NOT CONNECTED TO A CLUB (RESULTING IN ISOLATION OF COACHES)
We want to challenge these barriers by providing a new Development Programme to support female coaches and activity leaders to develop their skills, qualities and experience to make them better at what they do. We don’t however, want to do this in a prescribed rigid way that is predetermined. We want to explore different ways to support coaches and activity leaders by providing an individual support programme for each coach/activity leader that is selected to be part of the programme. The support will be based on their needs and circumstances and be individualised to ensure that they get the most out of the programme.

Your covering letter should detail your coaching/activity leading journey to date, highlighting any barriers that you have faced in relation to developing and learning as a coach/activity leader, and also, why you want to be part of the programme.
