Club Matters Update – April 2016

Sport England recently undertook an evaluation of the Clubmark accreditation. The findings highlighted that the principles of Clubmark are still appropriate and that the scheme did not need to be drastically re-developed or overhauled. It did, however, confirm that the scheme needed to be reviewed and updated.

How has the Clubmark criteria changed? The criteria for Clubmark has been updated by:

  • Reflecting the most recent legislative changes around safeguarding and welfare
  • Incorporating feedback to tighten up the criteria and make elements more specific, promoting a level of standardisation across the scheme
  • Aligning the scheme to better support increasing participation in sport and providing a safe and inclusive environment

What this means for clubs that are currently working towards Clubmark Clubs will no longer be assessed against the old criteria and all clubs that are currently working towards Clubmark will need to register on the new Clubmark online portal that is due to be launched.

The work that has been done to date will still be relevant and will contribute to the achievement of Clubmark.

The new Clubmark online portal

The most significant change is the introduction of an online portal that all clubs must use when working towards Clubmark.

Clubs will work through the updated criteria submitting required evidence via the portal and assessors will be able to access this information to provide guidance and feedback. An assessor will also visit the club to ensure that the criteria have been fully implemented within the day to day running of the club.

Price Waterhouse Cooper, who manage Clubmark on behalf of Sport England, are currently training assessors in assessing clubs against the new criteria.

When will the Clubmark online portal be launched?

Monday 16 May 2016.
