County Sports Partnership Update – April 2016

Sunday 3rd April 2016

All Change on the SASSOT Team and the Athletics Network

SASSOT recently said a sad “Goodbye” to Chloe Groves, our Satellite Club Links Officer. Chloe joined us in 2012 when were awarded funding from Sport England to deliver the Satellite Clubs programme across the sub-region.  Thanks to Chloe’s hard work and dedication over the past three and a half years, all 91 of our secondary schools and colleges have been engaged in the programme, and 158 community clubs have been involved.  So far, 161 satellite clubs have been established, and an average of 25% of these participants have transitioned into community clubs to continue participating in their new sport.  One of the highlights of Chloe’s time with us was Roundhouse Boxing Club being announced as runner up in the National Satellite Club of the Year awards. Chloe, a keen football coach, player and fan, has moved on to the position of Football Foundation Projects Officer with Wolves Community Trust, and we wish her all the best in her exciting new role.

We are pleased to announce the Satellite Club Links Officer role will be taken on by Cath Pendlebury, who starts in post on 3rd May.  Cath has been a longstanding member of our team, starting as Athletics Development Officer on the Active Sports programme back in 2004.  Since 2009, we have employed her as Athletics Network Co-ordinator on behalf of the Staffordshire Athletics Network, and she has overseen a hugely successful beginner running programme which has seen over 100 beginner running courses taking place, with upwards of 2000 participants. We would like to thank Cath for all the work she has done on behalf of SASSOT and the Network to support the county’s clubs and volunteers, and to increase participation in the sport.

Cath can be contacted regarding the satellite clubs programme on 01785 619177 / 07814 131074 / cpendlebury@staffordbc.gov.uk. She will continue to work for the Athletics Network on a freelance basis, and can be contacted regarding athletics via Catherine@thesan.org.uk.  John Finney, the longstanding Network Chair, can be contacted via johnfinney26@btinternet.com
