Free Family Sailing In Kings Bromley This Saturday

There is FREE family sailing for all at Manor Park Sailing Club in Kings Bromley this Saturday (3 September) as part of the RYA’s huge summer of sailing!

The early forecast is looking bright, dry, with a decent breeze – perfect for having your first go on the water – so get down there between 10am – 4pm and anyone and everyone can get afloat and get a taste for a new activity you might never have thought was possible right on your doorstep. Manor Park SC is situated just off the A513 between Rugeley, Alrewas and Lichfield.

Britain was the top sailing nation for the fourth time in the last five Olympics at the Rio 2016, and almost 1,300 people nationwide tried sailing in just one week during the Games as part of the RYA’s Sail for Gold Roadshow.

Now the sport’s national body is bidding to help even more people get afloat at their local sailing club and show anyone who might think sailing is too expensive and inaccessible that it could actually be the sport for you.

Gary Robertson, RYA Training Principal at Manor Park SC, said: “Whether you’re a newcomer, a family or you’ve sailed before and want to get back on the water, there is something for everyone. Sailing can be as physical or as relaxing as you want it to be, you can sail with others or on your own, do it competitively or potter about and just enjoy the gentle escape of being outdoors. Experience the freedom, fun and exhilaration of getting afloat.”

Manor Park SC is a recognised RYA Training Centre meaning it conforms to the highest standards of quality and safety. All equipment will be supplied and refreshments available. Just wear soft soled shoes, dress for the weather and bring along your sense of fun and adventure!

Gareth Brookes, RYA Regional Development Officer for the Midlands, added: “It’s commonly cheaper for a whole family of four to be members at a local sailing club, including the chance to hire boats so you don’t have to own one, than it is for one adult to be a gym member. This is the perfect chance to discover the reality of what sailing is all about yourself for absolutely free.”
