Girls’ Golf is rocking again in Staffordshire

Tuesday 13th February 2018

Girls’ golf will be rocking again in Staffordshire when the successful campaign to inspire new young players returns in April 2018.

Girls Golf Rocks is all about attracting beginners to have fun, learn a new sport, get active and play alongside friends.

Free girls’ taster sessions will be on offer at 4 clubs, followed by group coaching courses with PGA professionals, supported by young ambassadors from the county squads.

This year Girls Golf Rocks will launch in Staffordshire with taster sessions at:

Clubs:

  • 3 Hammers Golf Complex: Sunday 15th April | 12:30opm – 2:30pm
  • Branston Golf & Country Club: Saturday 14th April | 10am – 12pm
  • Ingestre Park Golf Club: Sunday 15th April | 2pm – 4pm
  • Tom Gibbs Golf Academy at Keele Golf Range: Saturday 14th April | 2:30pm – 4:30pm

Following the tasters, each club will each offer a five-week coaching course with PGA professionals. Then, the new players will be invited to a fun day with the ambassadors featuring multi-skills challenges and the chance to play on a golf course.

Girls Golf Rocks is a national campaign, run jointly by England Golf and the Golf Foundation, and it aims to increase the number of girl golfers from an average of just two full members per club. U.S Kids also provide 7-irons for the girls to use.

It ran in Staffordshire for the first time last year and was very successful with 61 girls attending the tasters and 47 going into structured coaching.

Emily Coleman of Trentham Golf Club said ‘I enjoyed my role as a Girls Golf Rocks Ambassador as it was great to be part of a national coaching initiative specifically targeting girls. I think that golf is a fantastic way of socialising and making new friends whilst being active and definitely think that with the right opportunities, more girls will see how much golf has to offer’.
