Learn to sail at award winning South Staffs Sailing Club

Tuesday 17th May 2016

Based by J12 of the M6, South Staffs has previously won RYA Club of the Year making it a great place to learn to sail.

The Club runs the RYA courses that are suitable for all, teaching you to sail a dinghy in light winds without an instructor and there are places still available for the summer course. Lisa Carpenter learned to sail in 2014 and explains why she took up the sport: “it invigorates you, even after a hard week at work it enables you to switch off to all the stresses that day to day life brings.

“I think taking anything on as an adult is always harder than when you are younger but I’m enjoying the challenges it brings. It’s great to see that sailing is for all ages and not just for the youngsters and I find both young and older sailors really inspiring. I signed up for the Level 1 course in 2014 and within months ended up sailing in the GP14 World Championships.

“South Staffs is a great club to be a member of. I’d recommend it to anyone, it’s quite a cheap sport and it doesn’t matter what age you are, young or old, sailing is open to all and is not only a great form of exercise but a real sense of belonging to a community!!”

The next course starts on 01 June and takes place over five Wednesday evenings and two Saturdays.
