Opportunity to promote your Summer Holiday Young People’s Activity Programme

The Police and Crime Commissioner is again this year funding his ‘Space’ summer holiday programme aimed at providing positive activities for youngsters resident in Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent.

Operating between Monday 23 July and Friday 31 August for 8-17 year olds, Space aims to provide diversionary activities to reduce police reported incidents of anti-social behaviour (ASB), whilst at the same time enabling youngsters increase their skills and improve their health and general wellbeing.  PCC funded activities are provided through local authority Community Safety Partnerships and are now defined for 2018.

Keen to maximise the offer of activities and events to local youngsters, the PCC is providing the opportunity for your business to market details of your summer holiday activities on the Space website, free of charge.  If you’ve activities planned for young people which will be taking place between 23 July and 31 August and would like these promoted in the ‘non PCC funded’ Space offer to local youngsters, simply complete the attached form and these can be incorporated. Indeed if you’re able to offer any specific discounts or giveaways to young people as incentives, these too can be incorporated and would be most welcomed.

Originating in the 1980’s in the county, you may recall that Space was first run by Staffordshire Police. Whilst the county does experience higher levels of ASB during the summer holiday period, it’s no different to other areas of the UK.

Staffordshire’s PCC continues his enthusiastic support of the scheme extra funding this year has enabled Space to be delivered in other school holidays in some areas and the lowering of the age band for certain activities. The Space programme which has seen many partners, businesses and members of the public come together to help keep our communities even safer. In 2017, Space attracted more than 18000 attendees across the summer holidays– an increase of 5669 from the previous summer holiday period. Space is extremely well received by partners, businesses, youngsters and their parents and has received a tremendous amount of positive publicity.

If your business would like to help keep Staffordshire safer, please consider using this opportunity to market your own events on the Space website. The website has undergone development again this year, improving its functions and appearance. Space has also improved its reach through targeted social media promotions.
