Residential opportunity for deaf young people to train as swimming assistants

Thursday 3rd March 2016

The National Deaf Children’s Society (NDCS) is holding a residential course aimed at helping deaf young people aged 16-25 years to achieve an ASA Level 1 Swimming Assistant qualification.

A group of 16 young people will be selected to spend four days learning swimming theory and technique and getting hands on experience of teaching swimming. The tutor will be fully qualified and deaf-aware, and communication support will be provided. The course is being delivered in association with IoS Training.

The course not only allows young aspiring swimming teachers to develop new skills, but it also allows them to make friends and socialise with other deaf swimming teachers.

In the evenings, there will be opportunities to spend time with course mates and take part in a wide range of activities.

The attendees will be staying at Laches Wood Outdoor Activity Centre in Slade Heath, Wolverhampton in the West Midlands, and the course itself will be taking place at Chase Leisure Centre in Cannock.

The subsidised course costs just £150 per person and covers overnight accommodation, morning and evening meals, transport, course and exam fees, tutor costs and pool and classroom hire.

The deadline for applications is 9am on Friday 1 April 2016. People interested in taking part can download the application form here.
