Stafford Road Club time trial events

On Sunday the 13 March Stafford Road Club starts a series of over 30 cycling time trials on a variety of courses in and around Stafford.  The events are run in conjunction with Walsall Roads Cycling Club and are ‘Open to All’ not just club members.  The events see riders set off at one minute intervals just like the professionals and timed over a measured course.

Each year we attract over 600 participants with usually around 20-25 riders at each event of all abilities and on all types of bikes.  Full details of all the events with course maps and start times can be found online via Stafford Road Clubs Events page www.staffordrc.org. Early season events start on a Sunday but then run mid week when the clock moves forward.

Alastair Semple, Stafford Road Club states “time trials are known as the race of truth, as it’s just you against the clock. There are no mass starts and riders set off one at a time trying to better their own personal best performance.  I personally like the time trial events because they have a friendly atmosphere and are a great opportunity to meet like minded cycling enthusiasts.  We often see riders using these events as marks for their own personal fitness.

We follow a similar schedule each year at a variety of distances so you can use these events to see your progression over the years as well as throughout the year. Riders just turn up about 20 to 30 mins before the start time sign on and get issued with a number and then, at the designated time, we start the riders off in number order.

The only restrictions are that riders must be 12 years or older and have a bike, any style, in a safe working order.  We always encourage riders to use a rear flashing light and to wear a helmet to help make other road users aware of them and to aid personal safety”
