Monday 30th October 2017

White ribbon campaignEvery week in England and Wales 2 women are killed as a result of Domestic Violence. Members of Soroptimist International of Stafford organized and hosted an evening event at The Moat House Hotel Stafford to highlight The White Ribbon Campaign.

Speakers were ex Rugby player Ikram Butt, who is The White Ribbon Campaign Sports Co-ordinator, Detective Chief Inspector, Simon Brownsword, Staffordshire Police, Dickie James, Chief Executive, Staffordshire Women’s Aid, Ann Garvie, Past President Soroptimist International.

Representatives from sports organizations who attended the event were: Stoke City Football Club, Stafford Rangers Football Club, Staffordshire Football Association, Stafford Rugby Union, Staffordshire Base Line Tennis, and Staffordshire Rugby Union.

Ikram Butt said that young sports men are needed as ambassadors and role models to stand up and say “We all agree that violence against women is not acceptable and we will not tolerate it at our club.”

Get involved by getting your club accredited to The White Ribbon Campaign, wear the white ribbon on your sports shirt, or sign the pledge. Get your club involved in the education of young people to teach them how to help to stop domestic abuse and to change attitudes to show Zero Tolerance to any form of Domestic Abuse.

The message is: wear your White Ribbon and pledge never to commit, excuse or remain silent about violence against women. All sports clubs no matter how large or small can be supportive to raise awareness of The White Ribbon Campaign.

Help will be available to assist any club wishing to achieve White Ribbon Accreditation.
