Summer Festival 2022:
After a 2-year break, the County School Games Summer Festival returned on 24th June 2022 at Keele University Sports Centre.
Schools across Staffordshire took part in local qualifiers held by their School Games Organiser. Around 1000 young people from years 3 to 10 and 300 schools attended the Summer Festival.
School Games is a celebration of physical activity and sport for pupils that provides opportunities for all young people regardless of their experience, talent or ability.
With this in mind, on the day we also had a Sport4All inclusive event and Quidditch for those young people that might have never been chosen to represent their school before.
Commonwealth Games Legacy funding was used to work with students in Years 9 and 10. We have targeted those pupils who were less active and not as engaged in sport and physical activity.
Using youth consultation, we have spoke to them and gathered their feedback and developed taster sessions of activities they would like to try at the Festival, giving them new opportunities to find an activity they love. We also focussed on mental health, and how being more active can help support young people who might be struggling.
We also welcomed the Commonwealth Games Mascot Perry, who helps inspire young people by highlighting the importance of physical activity.
Perry was one of a number of VIPs and Sports Stars that attended the Festival. We also welcomed media volunteers from Ormiston Horizon Academy for the day, who helped us collect photos, videos and interviews to write reports on the day.
