Baseball Softball UK- BSUK unveils plans for 2018 Coach Summit – 27 January

Monday 2nd October 2017

BSUK has announced that the 2018 Coach Summit will be held on Saturday 27 January in a new location: Kents Hill Park Training & Conference Centre in Milton Keynes.

The focus at the 2018 Coach Summit will be on baseball and fastpitch softball, with a high-level keynote speaker for both formats.  But a number of sessions will be relevant for slowpitch coaches as well.

Other experienced international coaches are expected to attend to support the keynote speakers in running sessions and workshops.

As with the first two Coach Summits, an awards ceremony will be held early on Saturday evening, after the sessions have finished, to honour the very best coaches in the UK.

On Sunday 28 January, the keynote speakers and other coaches will deliver hands-on coaching sessions in nearby sports halls in Milton Keynes to athletes from the baseball and softball High Performance Academies, as well as classroom sessions.

After two years in Birmingham, the BSUK Coach Summit is moving to another Central England location for 2018  – to Milton Keynes.

The full address of the venue is: Kents Hill Park Training and Conference Centre, Swallow House,
Timbold Drive, Kents Hill Park, Milton Keynes MK7 6BZ, and an alternative postcode for SatNav is MK7 6TT.

The venue is easily accessible by road or rail, with 800 free parking spaces on site, and is about four miles (10 minutes’ taxi ride) from Milton Keynes Central Station, served by high-speed trains from Euston and around the country.

The site offers high-standard en suite accommodation in residential blocks for coaches and players who are taking part in sessions on Sunday or who want to come to Milton Keynes on Friday evening.  For more information on accommodation, please see the Coach Summit 2018 microsite.

Timings are still being worked out, but sessions will probably begin around 10.00 am on Saturday morning and run until 5.00 or 6.00 pm, with the Coaching Awards ceremony to follow.  More precise information will be published over the coming weeks.

Cost

The cost for Coach Summit tickets is the same as last year — £80 – and tickets are expected to be available from 1 October.

Themes and topics

Topics for the Coach Summit are still being discussed, but a general theme will be around coaches investing in themselves and aiming higher by addressing the barriers to improvement.  Athletes are continually getting better and coaches need to do the same.

One session definitely on the schedule will be a two-hour workshop for Little League organisers.

The workshop will cover Little League eligibility paperwork, access to the Little League University and useful club tools and an update on the plan and vision for Little League in the UK.

More general workshops might be based around concepts such as:

  • Making coaching sessions more engaging and appealing at all levels, from beginner/entry level right through to Academy/HPA and national teams.
  • Building culture and a leadership mindset within teams.
  • How GB Teams can outsmart and defeat opposition with more resources and a bigger player base.
  • Developing national team success beyond 2020.
