England Athletics- Regional coach and athlete workshops added to autumn / winter programme

Monday 2nd October 2017

As part of our work to support coaches and athletes, a series of regional event specific workshops are to be held throughout this winter. These are in addition to other workshops and events available to support coaches working in the areas of speed, endurance, jumps, throws, and youth development.

The training and education days / evenings are designed to bring together local coaches and athletes to train and develop expertise. They will deliver a mixture of practical and theory content, enable coaches and athletes to mix and share experiences and cascade knowledge from the national level events.

These days are being organised and delivered by a team of Regional Coach Leads in each event group area (endurance / jumps / throws / speed). Each Regional Coach Lead (three or four across the country in each of the four event group areas) is tasked with delivering four coach and athlete days or evenings each autumn / winter.  Courses are suitable for Coaching Assistants, Athletics Coach and established coaches, and athletes (where advertised), who are looking to develop their skill level.

Martin Rush, Head of Coaching and Athlete Development, said, “We are delighted to be able to offer these opportunities for coaches to come together over the coming months to share their own expertise with others and to learn.

“Working together in a practical environment is an essential way of coaches developing their skills. This series of events sees a unique set of opportunities for coaches to come together not only with each other, but also with their athletes being part of the sessions.

“With a range of events available through the winter I would encourage coaches, and athletes, to see what is available for them.”
