Stoke-on-Trent City Council – £100k available for city’s sport groups

Sports clubs around the city are being encouraged to apply for funding from a £100,000 cashpot which aims to boost opportunities for residents to participate in sporting activity.   The money has been made available by Stoke-on-Trent City Council through its Community Grants Programme (CGP), as part of the European City of Sport celebrations. Clubs and organisations can apply for one-off cash grants of up to £2,000 which can be spent on delivering activities and training, new equipment or enhancements to existing sporting facilities, among other things. The money will support community sports programmes across the city, which will help residents of all ages and backgrounds become healthier through sport and exercise.

To be eligible to apply, groups must satisfy a criteria checklist. These include being based in the city or drawing at least 75 per cent of their members from Stoke-on-Trent, operating on a not-for-profit basis and not having a turnover of more than £50,000 per year. All projects must provide opportunities for people of all ages and gender to take part in competitive or recreational sport and be completed within 12 months of funding being awarded. PCC People Power Funding Window Opens

Great ideas for community safety solutions come from local people which is why Police and Crime Commissioner Matthew Ellis is inviting groups in Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent to bid for money from his People Power Fund from Monday 1 August 2016.

As part of his commitment to local communities, the Commissioner is providing £500,000 in 2016/17 through the fund in the form of grants of between £100 and £3,000. The window for the latest round of applications for People Power Funding is now open until 14 September 2016.

The fund is supporting locally-driven community safety activities throughout Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent. These could include providing long term, sustainable positive activities for young people to help reduce anti social behaviour, mentoring programmes for targeted local groups through to activities that reassure and improve the quality of life in local areas. In the last two years over 200 local projects across Staffordshire and Stoke on Trent have received People Power Funding.

Mr Ellis said: ‘The Commissioner’s People Power Fund puts half a million pounds back into local communities and is easy and simple to apply for. It’s about local ideas to sort out local issues like anti social behaviour. If you’ve got a good idea, the People Power Fund may be able to help you achieve it. If you’re a community group with good ideas to cut crime or make your area safer go to the website now to find out more.’

People Power applications need to be sponsored by the group’s Neighbourhood Police Officer or PCSO and will initially be assessed by the local Community Safety Partnership.

Over the coming weeks you will notice our website, emails etc. being updated with our new logo and company name.  In the meantime you can continue to contact us in the usual way. Coalfields Community Investment Programme

The Coalfields Regeneration Trust is dedicated to improving the quality of life for the 5.5 million people living in Britain’s former mining communities. Many of these communities still require support due to the huge impact the closure of the mines had upon them.

The fund is open to projects that deliver in the top 30% most deprived coalfield communities and that will make a positive difference in addressing the following themes:

Skills: Growing the skills of people in order to increase their opportunities

Employment: Developing pathways to increase the number of people in work

Health: Supporting projects that increase participation in activities/services that improve the health and wellbeing of people in former coalfield communities.  This may include sports projects focusing on the stated underrepresented groups (Impairment Groups/Disabled People, Women and girls, Victims of abuse, Carers, Homeless people), healthy eating initiatives, mental health support and projects focusing on promoting social interaction and engagement.

Sport England Funding update 2016

We are always keen to hear about new, exciting and effective ways to get more people active and improve lives

Tell us about your project idea

Maybe it’s an exercise class in a care home, an inner city basketball project or a new combined leisure centre, GP surgery and library in the heart of a rural community. Whatever it is, if you’ve got a great project idea, we’d like to hear about it and discuss whether it’s something we could potentially fund.

Here’s what to do

To tell us about your project idea, you can either call us on 0345 8508 508 or email funding@sportengland.org

One of our colleagues will take some initial details, and then ask one of our investment fund leads to contact you directly to have a more detailed conversation.

It might be that your project is right for one of our current funding schemes, like our Small Grants or Strategic Facilities funds.

If not, we’ll be able to tell you about the new investment programmes we’re developing and when they’re likely to be open for new applications. Some will be opening very soon.

Don’t worry – you won’t be making an application at this stage, so you don’t have to prepare any long documents or fill in a form. We’d just like to discuss your idea.
