Local athletes represent Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent at B2022 Commonwealth Games
Thursday 28th July to Monday 8th August saw the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games take place, with athletes competing from all across the world from 72 participating nations.
On Wednesday 3rd August, the mountain biking event took place on the nationally acclaimed trails at Birches Valley, Cannock Chase, with over 2,500 people turning out to watch.
South Staffordshire was proud to host part of the cycling time trial events, which took part on the roads of Himley and Gospel End.
Many athletes from Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent competed at the Games; the full list can be found below.
Several of the athletes took home medals:
Adam Peaty OBE won gold in the men’s 50m breaststroke event.
Dan Bigham won silver in a team pursuit in cycling.
Gemma Howell won silver in the women’s judo 63kg category.
Sophie Capewell won bronze in the women’s 500m time trial and a silver medal in the Keirin.
