Monday 25th July 2016

SASSOT Sports Awards 2016 are open for nominations.  There are six awards up for grabs

  1. Coach of the Year
  2. Community Club of the Year
  3. Community Project of the Year
  4. Volunteer of the Year
  5. Aspiring Athlete of the Year
  6. The Power of Sport Award

SASSOT is urging people to put forward their local sporting heroes, especially those whose lives have been improved through the power of physical activity and sport.

The winners will be recognised at an awards ceremony on 1st November, and given a ‘golden ticket’ into the West Midlands Community Sports Awards – where the top young talent, best clubs and projects, and selfless individuals from across the region will be recognised.

Mark Thornewill, Director, from SASSOT, said: “There are thousands of people across Staffordshire doing fantastic things to inspire people to lead healthier, fun and active lives, from swimming to boocia, cricket to keep fit.

“We want to recognise those individuals, whether they are coaching future talent, reaching out to less advantaged people, or achieving sporting success of their own – but we need the community to nominate them.”

Winners of the SASSOT awards will join those from five other local County Sports Partnerships for the prestigious West Midlands Community Sports Awards (WMCSA), which will be held on 30 November at Villa Park.

BBC Unsung Hero Award

Do you know a local sports volunteer who deserves recognition for their tireless efforts in helping people to participate in sport? Well now’s your chance to give them their time to shine by nominating them for the BBC Get Inspired Unsung Hero Award 2016.

Now in its 14th year, the Unsung Hero award recognises the fantastic work carried out by sports volunteers from across the UK to encourage others to participate in sport. The Unsung Hero award will be one of the highlights of this year’s Sports Personality of the Year awards taking place in Birmingham on Sunday 18th December.

The winner could be anyone from a local sports club manager, volunteer, kit person or coach – if they have demonstrated a commitment to promoting sport in their local community then they could become this year’s winner.
