Community Sports Awards 2016
SASSOT’s Community Sport Awards 2016 saw some of the county’s finest sporting clubs, coaches, aspiring athletes, projects and volunteers coming together to be honoured. Held at Staffordshire County Council, on 1st November 2016, the event recognised the achievements and commitment of local people in developing local community sport. Awards were up for grabs in six categories and proved a challenging task for the judging panel in selecting county winners.
Harry Yates (17), Great Britain Cyclocross Team Member inspired the audience with his sporting achievements and aspirations for the future. After a tense lead up to the awards, the following 6 award winners were announced.
Community Coach of the Year 2016 – David Rigby (Cricket)
Community Club of the Year 2016 – Tamworth Boxing Club
Aspiring Athlete of the Year 2016 – Bethan Rees (Stafford)
Community Project of the Year 2016 – Real Girls (Cannock Chase)
Community Volunteer of the Year 2016 – Jason Christer (Powerchair Football)
Five Golden Ticket Winners go through to the West Midlands Community Sports Awards Finals on 30th November 2016 at Aston Villa FC
