Throughout the design and engagement process, a variety of local voices across the West Midlands and NGBs were involved with the aim to make the process as accessible as possible. Barriers to application have been removed at every stage and guidance for applications is available in 15 languages.

The main priorities for the distribution of the equipment include a strong focus on supporting equality, diversity and inclusion principles that run throughout the Games.

  • A strong focus on supporting equality, diversity and inclusion principles that run throughout the Games and that are intrinsically linked to the ‘Games for Everyone’ ethos
  • A commitment to tackling inactivity and engaging underrepresented groups, aligned to the existing approach to the B2022 Physical Activity & Wellbeing legacy, as well as government’s broader approach to sport and physical activity and Sport England’s own Uniting the Movement strategy
  • Ensuring that, as far as is possible and practicable, assets are distributed fairly and equitably, with reach across the West Midlands region, and beyond where possible

Carly Jones, Together Active CEO commented, “We are delighted to be able to support this incredibly opportunity for local sports and community groups. The Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games were a fantastic achievement in diversity and inclusion for the region, and this excellent initiative will ensure its continued impact for years to come.”
